Books I read:
-Galileo's Daughter by Dava Sobel
-Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
Continuing where we left off last year, I read the second chapter in A Concise History of Poland, by Jerzy Lukowski, titled "Jagiellonian Poland." My task for the summer was to make a brief presentation on what I had learned in the chapter.
After learning about the Scientific Revolution and reading Dava Sobel's Galileo's Daughter, I wrote a short essay on the relationship between Galileo and his Daughter.
This was my prompt: Write a short paper analyzing the social complexities and unique qualities of Galileo's relationship with Maria Celeste as depicted in Dava Sobel's Galileo's Daughter. Compare this relationship to other father-daughter dynamics typical of the period, focusing on issues such as social status, gender roles, and familial expectations.
